O fim de ano se aproxima e as listas de melhores discos e filmes abundam em sites e revistas. A publicação americana Loudwire, especializada em hard rock e heavy metal, soltou uma seleção legal (com algumas polêmicas) dos 50 melhores álbuns de metal de todos os tempos, com comentários justificando cada escolha.

Em geral, considero uma lista justa e abrangente das diferentes vertentes do gênero, do power ao black metal. Há, no entanto, apostas pouco óbvias, como meter o Korn (por ser um dos criadores do nu metal) e o metal progressivo do Dream Theater entre Black Sabbath, Metallica e Iron Maiden. Num honroso 21º lugar aparecem os brasucas do Sepultura com Beneath the Remains, de 1989.

Talvez a posição mais inusitada seja a 11ª colocação para os armênios radicados nos Estados Unidos do System of a Down, devido ao sucesso espetacular e a inovação de Toxicity. Pessoalmente gosto dessa aposta; colocaria, no entanto, mais para o meio da lista. Senti falta, por outro lado, de bandas como Carcass (Heartwork estaria na minha lista), Lamb of God (As the Palaces Burn, a meu ver, merecia ser lembrado) e AC/DC (tudo bem, eles estão na fronteira entre o rock e o metal, mas valeria a menção).
